Mohamed Hanslod is the CEO of Bri-Tek Technologies, an eco-technology company specialising in LED lighting, far infrared heating, solar panels, battery storage solutions, and electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions. Bri-Tek’s notable achievement includes developing a compact emergency battery for LED lighting, a universally compatible emergency battery that not only seamlessly integrates with its own lighting products, but also harmonises with competitors’ offerings. Manufactured in Bolton, the product surpassed 20,000 units in the first year, establishing Bri-Tek as a commercial success and industry innovator in LED lighting solutions.
Bri-Tek Technologies entered the first ever MSDUK Innovation Challenge and were crowned the overall winner, which has helped them gain publicity and recognition. This accolade allowed Bri-Tek to present themselves as an award-winning entity, contributing to positive visibility. Mohamed emphasises that having a commercially viable, innovative product is key to leveraging opportunities effectively. “The Innovation Challenge served as a gateway, opening doors to potential clients who might not have otherwise considered the company’s diverse array of products and solutions”.
One notable achievement that Mohamed highlights is his victory after winning the Innovation Challenge led to visibility in a local newspaper, receiving nominations and further winning multiple accolades and presenting at events, which was a very exciting time for Mohamed and Bri-Tek.
Bri-Tek initially offered a broad range of lighting products for domestic, commercial, and industrial sectors but later narrowed its focus to concentrate on the commercial and industrial segments. Over the years, the company has expanded its reach, supplying products to Europe, the Middle East, and the USA, with European rollouts stemming from successful work in the UK.
The company’s growth is attributed not solely to innovation, but also to a diverse range of products and a commitment to quality service. Continuous innovation, driven by consumer demand, has led to organic expansions into areas such as heating, solar, battery storage, and electric vehicle charging solutions. They pride themselves on being an innovative company that always strives to meet specific consumer needs by providing commercially viable bespoke solutions.
Since participating in the Innovation Challenge, Mohamed has been an active member of the MSDUK network since 2017. Utilising their membership, Bri-Tek connected and collaborated with Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Mohamed highlights, “the collaboration was initiated by a representative from MSDUK, who set up a meeting for us to contact Enterprise, leading to a fruitful year and a half-long business commitment.”
Furthermore, Bri-Tek expanded its network by collaborating with other ethnic-minority businesses within the MSDUK network, such as Octavian IT and Gemini Group, fostering enduring relationships for the foreseeable future. He emphasises that building relationships with other ethnic minority businesses is just as important as the relationships that are built with the corporates, as these relationships are important for long-term growth and success.
Mohamed continues to participate in numerous events organised by MSDUK post-Innovation Challenge. Reflecting on the experience, he shares, “What I like about going to an MSDUK event are the one-to-one events they have, it’s very enticing, and you leave feeling more confident.” Mohamed acknowledges the importance of these one-on-one interactions with corporates, emphasising the crucial nature of establishing an initial touchpoint. He notes, “Even if business is not immediate, subsequent meetings often pave the way for future collaborations.”
He further adds, “We always go to the meet-the-buyer events; exhibiting at MSDUK events is a no-brainer – you have corporates there, so why would you not want to do that? I would say to any business to exhibit, as a lot of the buyers are keen and motivated and want to talk to you; it has always been fruitful.”
Bri-Tek is focusing on commercial solar projects and also currently looking to expand within Africa, which has already gained significant traction. For example, one notable project is in South Africa, facilitated through an MSDUK contact, and is currently under specification. In addition, they have successfully completed other commercial projects, including a steel plant and hotel within the UK, with more in the pipeline.
Mohamed emphasises their commitment to delivering specified solutions, citing a recent project with Selfridges, where Bri-Tek supplied infrared bar heaters for their delivery areas, demonstrating their ability to provide tailored solutions. Mohamed notes” Selfridges was happy with the service we had provided; it was a great project to be involved in, which had come through MSDUK”. They are gearing up for their new innovative product colour changing streetlights, which is now ready for launch.
“If you have an innovation that solves a real-world problem, and you know its commercially viable, then enter Innovation Challenge. The publicity you get, the confidence you get, it is definitely worthwhile. Some of the innovations I see now are fantastic and the competition is quite tough. So, if you win, you have really got something, it opens doors for you.”
