Transforming Speech Therapy: The Beautiful Voice Journey

Andre Hallack and Yun Bing are Co-Founders of Beautiful Voice, a digital health platform that employs Artificial Intelligence and gamification to improve speech and language therapy delivery. It aims to make high-quality speech and language therapy more accessible, efficient, and data-driven, enabling better therapy outcomes for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

The platform empowers therapists with powerful tools to assist people with communication issues. By automating exercise creation, reports, and assessment, Beautiful Voice saves speech and language therapists’ time and allows them to focus just on treating their patients. For patients, they make communication training more engaging and effective helping them improve self-management of their conditions and improving therapy outcomes.

Innovation Challenge Finals: A Platform for Visibility

Participation in the Innovation Challenge has allowed Beautiful Voice to showcase its business and enhance its visibility. The Founders recall the experience as the best pitching competition they’ve been involved in, with the most memorable moment being the preparation for the pitch alongside the other Finalists. Their journey at the Finals fostered connections with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the sponsor of the Social Impact category, leading to exciting possibilities within the pharmaceutical industry and sparking interest from various individuals.

“Each business had their own way of presenting its idea and journey, and even though we were competitors, there was a great sense of friendship and support amongst us”, states Andre. Yun adds, “We have connected with numerous individuals interested in Beautiful Voice, keen to learn more about our work and explore potential collaborations, which is very exciting for our future”.

Champions of Social Impact: A Validation of Beautiful Voice

Beautiful Voice’s triumph in the Social Impact Category is celebrated as a profound validation of their impactful work. The prize money of £2,500 is being used in collaboration with Aphasia Support, a UK charity providing speech and language therapy to 150 stroke survivors. Together, they can extend their services to the individuals they assist and enhance their database to accommodate their system’s user base. Andre affirms, “Winning the Social Impact category is a testament that we are solving a real issue and moving in the right direction, motivating us to work hard.” Yun expresses, “We were thrilled and happy to win the Social Impact Category because it’s a form of validation of our work being acknowledged and recognised by the community. It also gives us a big push forward to keep going and continue with what we are doing.”

Innovation Resolution: Next Generation of Technology

The platform’s ability to reduce medical staff workload and increase the number of patients who can receive healthcare resonates with the current healthcare crisis and the need for an innovative resolution. Beautiful Voice believes its technology sets it apart from competitors, which combines signal processing with the Accessible Information Standard for enhanced healthcare delivery. Organisations providing NHS and publicly funded adult social care are legally required to follow the Accessible Information Standard to guarantee that health and social care are accessible to people with disabilities, impairments, or sensory loss.

Pitching Mastery for Beautiful Voice

Before the Finals at the Conference, Beautiful Voice and all the other Innovation Challenge Finalists were invited to attend a bespoke Pitch Training Workshop. Some topics covered in the session included body language, pitch structure and instilling confidence.

“Kaitlin, the pitching expert and mentor, was great; she made the session very informative, and it was beneficial even for those that have pitched multiple times before”, says Andre. After the Pitch Training Workshop, Beautiful Voice continued receiving support from Kaitlin. Andre and Yun emphasised how the sessions were interactive and educational in refining their pitch for the competition.  “We are not natural-born speakers, so Kaitlin helped us to make our pitch more direct and exciting. It was crucial having her go through all the aspects of our pitch, making sure we are both telling a compelling story while also addressing the judges and the audience’s expectations,” notes Andre and Yun.

Beautiful Voice’s Next Chapter

Early adopters, including stroke survivors, Parkinson’s patients, and private clinic therapists, are actively embracing Beautiful Voice’s platform. Andre and Yun aim to keep raising awareness of their products and business, aspiring to be the mainstream solution for digital speech and language therapy. They also want to help transform current care pathways to enable more people to improve their communication skills, which are currently preventing them from fully engaging in society and living an active and fulfilling life.

Entrepreneurial Wisdom: Navigating the Innovation Challenge

For ethnic minority businesses interested in participating in the Innovation Challenge, Andre and Yun advocate a laser focus on innovation and embracing feedback from the MSDUK Team and fellow participants, as each perspective contributes to personal development and the venture’s success.  Andre advises, “Focus on innovation and how it brings change. Embrace feedback for personal development”, whilst Yun adds ” Consider the unique perspectives offered by both the MSDUK Team and participants, as they contribute to your personal and professional development”.

“Without MSDUK it would probably be a lot harder in terms of business-to-business sales functions because MSDUK gave us access to get our first client, Enterprise Rent-a-Car and from there we were able to snowball.”
